The Light Portal™ provides an ideal environment for the meditation experience. The portal’s enclosed space supplemented with music and light encourages the body and soul into an enhanced state of relaxation. You are detached from the everyday stresses of family and work and are thus readily receptive to entering the meditative state.

The meditative state allows one to enter into a state of “thoughtless awareness” in which the excessive stress producing activity of the mind is nullified without reducing mental alertness. Those who are experienced in meditation will quickly appreciate the environment provided by the Light Portal™.

For those who are new to meditation, here are two techniques which should help you experience the meditative pathway to spiritual consciousness.

Deep Breathing Meditation To Relieve Stress

Deep breathing is a simple, yet powerful, relaxation technique. It’s easy to learn, can be practiced almost anywhere, and provides a quick way to get your stress levels under control. The key to deep breathing is to breathe deeply from your abdominal diaphragm, getting as much fresh air as possible in your lungs. When you take deep breaths from your diaphragm, rather than shallow breaths from your upper chest, you inhale more oxygen. The more oxygen you receive, the less tense, short of breath, and stressed you feel.

  • After you enter the Light Portal™, position yourself on your back and place one hand on your chest and one on your stomach.
  • Breathe in through your nose. Your stomach should rise, your chest should move only slightly.
  • Exhale through your mouth, pushing out as much air as you can while contracting your diaphragm. The hand on your stomach should move in as you exhale, but your other hand should move very little.
  • Continue to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Try to inhale enough so that your lower abdomen rises and falls. Count slowly as you exhale.

Mindfulness for Relaxation and Stress Relief

Mindfulness is a technique whereby one focuses on the present moment and to remain aware of what you are feeling and experiencing in the moment. Thinking and worrying about the past or something in the future can lead to overwhelming stress. A command of mindfulness can block those stressful thoughts. By staying calm and focused on the moment with an emphasis on your deep breathing, you can reduce your stress and encourage your nervous system into balance.

Mindfulness is an especially effective technique to use while in the Light Portal™. The quiet environment while in the Light Portal™ as you are lying on your back in a comfortable position, fosters an ideal setting to practice mindfulness meditation.

Once you are positioned in the Light Portal™, you need to find a point of focus. This point can be internal such as a feeling or imaginary scene or something external, such as a word or phrase you repeat during your session. Many of our clients focus on the light directly above them in the portal.

Don’t worry about any distracting thoughts that you may have during your session. If outside thoughts do intrude, don’t fight them just turn gently back to your point of focus and your breathing.

Once you begin to feel comfortable with your meditation efforts you may find you have an increased sense of your spiritual self.

What Is Spirituality?

The Dalai Lama has written that “spirituality is concerned with those qualities of the human spirit – such as love and compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, a sense of responsibility, a sense of harmony – which brings happiness to both self and others…”

Everyday life is difficult and hectic. Family and business issues can overwhelm us and detach us from our inner being. We can lose patience; we can lose compassion and a sense of harmony.

Becoming more in touch with our own spirituality, puts life in perspective. It allows us to appreciate our own character and intelligence and to be more tolerant and forgiving. If we get in touch with our inner heart and being we can find the guidance we need to realize our needs and contentment.
